Warner, Rocksteady Studios reportedly postpone Suicide Squad game until 2023

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has been delayed until 2023 for unknown reasons and WarnerMedia is yet to provide more details.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a shooter action-adventure video game set within the DC Universe. The game is developed by Rocksteady Studios, a British video game developer best known for their work in the Batman: Arkham series which came to be loved by many.

At first, the game is set with an initial release window in 2022 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows.

But, according to a Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier that people who are familiar with the game’s development had claimed that WarnerMedia “has quietly” pushed the game release to 2023 due to unspecified reasons.

Warner Brothers have not provided more details about Schreier’s report.

Jason Kilar, WarnerMedia’s chief executive officer tweeted last week that Warner will be releasing its “full slate of highly anticipated games” in 2022 by providing artworks from the highly-anticipated Hogwarts Legacy set within the world of Harry Potter and Gotham Knights, a Batman spinoff game set in the Gotham city.

Whether Kilar’s tweet of not including Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is intentional, still remains a question.

This has led people to believe that the game has been delayed for an unspecified release date and Schreier’s report seems to have all the answers the fans need.

Warner has reportedly pushed back Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights and the LEGO game of Star Wars from its initial release date in 2021. These titles slipped to this year following the pandemic affecting production and many development challenges.

Suicide Squad story, plot

Details about Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League so far is only limited to trailer and gameplay releases.

The story follows a team of DC antiheroes, called Task Force X, the confirmed members are Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and the puppet master Amanda Waller. Although, players most likely will not be able to play Waller.

Task Force X is often sent on suicide missions. This time, they had to fight against a group of brainwashed superheroes like Superman, Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. The master behind the brainwashing is one of DC’s notable villains, Brainiac.

Poison Ivy and the Penguin appear to be in the game as well.

As from the obvious story of the game, players will be playing the supposedly villains in DC other iterations or the group of antiheroes against the main villain of the story, the brainwashed DC superheroes.

Roosters on both sides are still the confirmed ones so far and whether Rocksteady Studios will add more is still unknown.

Gameplay so far

The developer has confirmed that the game will be an open-world DC game, very much like their previous games the Arkham series

Sefton Hill, Rocksteady Studios creative director has confirmed that the gameplay of Kill The Justice League is going to be a hybrid of the Arkham series and “powerful, awesome gunplay.”

It is safe to assume that there will be an RPG system game progression, skill tree, upgrading abilities, or customizing each characters’ signature weapon.

Although there is not much known about this game, fans of the DC games at the very least are treated with the anticipated RPG game set in the Harry Potter universe and perhaps the return of Arkham series taking forms in Kill The Justice League.
