Epic War: Blockchain’s maiden first-person shooter game officially launched
Attracting more than 1.5 million gamers around the world by the end of 2021, the blockchain gaming industry has been mainly focusing on simple 2D games with turn-based mechanics.
Many of the games focus more on the earning aspect rather than the gaming aspect. It has changed now, however, thanks to the introduction of blockchain’s first first-person shooter game, complete with AAA graphics.
Introducing Epic War
Blockchain just welcomed its first-ever first-person shooter game, Epic War, which comes with AAA graphics. The developer said it would expand beyond the blockchain gaming industry to include comic books and films. The game offers a gameplay that is free-play-to-earn (F2P2E) within its virtual reality (VR) metaverse.
The fully 3D blockchain shooter is a battle royale set on a foreign planet full of hostile NPC creatures. A single session is fought by two teams comprising eight players each. The game also features boss battles with three difficulties, namely normal, hard, and super hardcore.
“Planet Kepler-22b is an Earth-like version with advanced technology,” the game writes on its official website epicwar.io. “After nuclear war happened many years ago, humankind nowadays only lives in a small part of the planet in hopes of seeking Earth’s help to fight with mutated monsters and restore the planet.
“They invented a portal connecting between the two worlds to get our help quickly and transferred us the technology to enhance our fighting abilities against monsters.
“And the fight for human civilization begins…”
Players create new in-game characters, weapons, gears, battle maps, and purchase NFT items using the game’s native token $EWAR. The tokens can also be used for governance purposes, meaning the holders of the game’s token can be given privileges on the decision-making of the project.
The tokens are given to players and teams after winning battles. The tokens can also be used to improve the players’ in-game characters in terms of their attributes. They can also be sold to the highest bidder on exchanges.
Both winners and losers are entitled to earn NFTs after each battle. The NFTs can be sold, rented, or traded. The NFTs represent maps, gears, and weapons. The players will also receive NFTs after completing in-game challenges.
The game was developed using C++ code and runs on the Unity Engine. Many mainstream AAA titles are developed to run on the Unity Engine, including releases such as Escape From Tarkov, Cuphead, Wasteland 3, Subnautica, and many more.
According to the team behind Epic War, they would release a beta version of the PvE and PvP game modes along with a DAO governance system by the middle of the second quarter of this year. By the end of the second quarter, they would have done the initial offering of the EWAR token. The game is expected to be fully released in the third quarter.
Hosting Epic War will be multiple blockchain ecosystems, including Binance Smart Chain, Solana, Polygon, and NEAR. The game is expected to have a beta test launch this month.
According to the developer, Epic War was expected to include VR support and provide an expansive metaverse that allows players to interact with the game in a virtual 3D ecosystem.
