Gala Games partners with Epic Games to launch first NFT game titled GRIT

Gala Games signed a partnership with Epic at its Galaverse convention on June 6. GRIT will be the first NFT title to debut on the Epic Games Store.

Due to the fact that GRIT was developed by Team GRIT, not Gala Games, the title is currently also listed for early access on Steam. In February, however, the two separate companies formed a “partnership”.

The game’s description on Steam contains no references to Web3, crypto, or blockchain. Team GRIT has not updated it since January 25, when they reported a delay and before they partnered with Gala. Unlike Steam, which banned NFT games last year, Epic has taken the first big step toward integrating NFT games, which are regarded as the future of the gaming industry.

More about the partnership

The official online launch of GRIT marks the partnership between Gala and Epic marks. In its presentation, Gala said that more blockchain games would soon be available on the platform. Every game the company currently displays on its website is either in development, in beta, or in the testing stages.

“Epic is a pioneer and visionary in the video game industry. Gala Games’ titles being available on the Epic Game Store brings legitimacy to this new genre of gaming,” said Gala president of games John Osvald. “Easy access to Web3 games is a turning point for those players who have not yet seen how digital ownership can enrich the gaming experience.”

Epic Games is the developer behind Fortnite, one of the most popular games of all time and the last to be launched on the Epic Games Store. Several top titles have been added to the Store since then, including Rocket League and Red Dead Redemption 2, but no other titles have been launched there.

GRIT is set to change that by bringing NFT gaming to the Epic Store. Despite the widespread criticism of NFT games, Gala Games claimed that GRIT would serve as a bridge for gamers to move forward from Web2 to Web3.

“GRIT is going to be one of the very first games on the Epic Games Store. We signed a partnership with Epic, so this is going to go to the entire gaming world,” Gala said. “This is the moment that it’s all going to start to change, and everybody’s going to figure out, why would you be playing a game where you don’t own what you buy in the game?”

GRIT has yet to announce a release date. According to the website, it is expected to arrive in early 2022. There are still few details about its gameplay, but Gala Games’ announcement cited “in-depth systems that allow you to customize your gunfighter exactly as you want”.

GRIT is expected to be a free-to-play online multiplayer game and will be available for Windows PC users. User-owned NFT assets will be available for purchase, resale, and use within the game. Players can own and trade collectibles such as artwork, skins, weapons, apparel, avatars, and vehicles.

The game will also provide players with the option to own and monetize virtual land through NFTs. This week, Gala Games will give away 10,000 mystery boxes containing avatars with unique characteristics.
