Salesforce announces NFT Cloud, to launch this October
Cloud-based software company Salesforce has officially joined the NFT industry after introducing its brand new NFT marketplace called NFT Cloud, which aims to realize an environmentally friendly and more secure NFT trading.
According to Senior Vice President Adam Caplan, the platform will encourage customers’ engagement instead of merely appreciating the value of NFTs.
Salesforce’s NFT Cloud is currently in a limited-access trial and will be officially launched sometime in October this year.
Salesforce’s NFT Cloud to focus on engagement
The development of NFT Cloud became news in February of this year. The platform is not Salesforce’s first attempt at entering Web 3.0. Back in 2019, the company launched the Salesforce blockchain, which was built on Hyperledger Sawtooth.
This time around, NFT seems to be the focus of the company, with a heavy emphasis on community engagement from brands and buyers. The aim is simple, to create an entirely new breed of communities with two primary design elements—trust and sustainability.
With the launch of NFT Cloud, Salesforce said it intended to squeeze out the practicality of NFTs, where both customers and buyers may gain benefits in the digital and physical world.
“Yes, the art should look great—but that’s not really the point, not how the brands we work with are leaning into this. Our customers are interested in utility. NFT holders receive benefits which could be in the physical or digital world—e.g. vote on a new line of clothing, receive a unique piece of clothing periodically.” Caplan said.
“Salesforce are driven by our core values. As we enter into this space, trust and sustainability are paramount to how we’re approaching this.”
Caplan also explained that the platform would help customers with all of their needs regarding NFTs, from minting, managing, and selling digital products.
“Our customers have been asking us to help them navigate Web 3.0. NFT Cloud is all about helping our customers mint, manage, and sell NFTs—and of course, it’s all no-code,” Caplan added.
NFT Cloud ease of use, security
NFT Cloud aims to be an efficient and safe platform for people to use. The marketplace will handle the back-end security that also includes writing and authentication of smart contracts. In other words, customers will only need to list their NFTs on the site.
When asked about the platform’s environmental implications and cyber security, Caplan said that users of NFT Cloud would be using a more environmentally friendly blockchain that enables them to purchase carbon offsets.
As for online scams, Caplan said that both assets and wallets suspected of being involved in fraud would be taken care of when they use NFT Cloud.
NearMintNFT CEO and NFT technology consultant John Hughes said that NFTs were full of risks and rewards, but the introduction of NFT Cloud would likely help ease the skeptical users in the NFT market.
“Once a company tests it’s an ethical NFT broker that takes security and sustainability into account – and makes that a team effort in conjunction with marketing staff – it’s possible to build success with an NFT program,” Hughes said.
“The blockchain platforms Salesforce chooses to integrate with NFT Cloud will be critical in swaying skeptical users, he added. The Solana blockchain, for example, uses about as much energy as two Google searches to mint an NFT.”
