Where Will The Next Assassin’s Creed Game Be Set?
Fans of Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, Assassin’s Creed, have been talking about the next game in the series. There was some speculation circulating around Ubisoft’s newest rumoured project, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, however, it’s a safe bet to assume that that isn’t the next Assassin’s Creed game – at least, not as we know them. So, with that information in mind, what is the next title in the franchise, and where will it be set?
Up until this point, we’ve explored a vast wealth of Assassin’s Creed timelines and locations. Since the franchise first launched in 2007, we’ve visited the Middle East, the United States, London, Egypt, and China, among other places. At the moment, the franchise sits on a precipice, with fans desperate wondering where the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set.
Let’s discuss the possibilities.
The Next Assassin’s Creed Game: We Need To Go Back
Firstly, let’s answer an all-important question: Will there be a new Assassin’s Creed game? Almost certainly, the answer is yes. We know about Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is a persistent, MMO-based ‘live service’ title, but that’s not the next Assassin’s Creed game. In 2020, Ubisoft delivered Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a Viking epic set between Norway and England in the Middle Ages. Since then, however, Ubisoft has neglected to pass any comment regarding a new Assassin’s Creed title, instead opting to deliver fresh content for Valhalla.
In the meantime, Ubisoft has been quietly fostering an interest in the development of crypto games and play-to-earn titles, but that’s a different story.
When it comes to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, one thing is for certain: we’ll be going back in time. To this day, we’ve never seen a ‘futuristic’ Assassin’s Creed title, as… Well, it just wouldn’t work. At its core, Assassin’s Creed is a historical adventure, exploring key timelines littered throughout the past, through a series of perspectives. We’ve seen Ancient Rome, Victorian London, the American Revolution, and the Italian Rennaissance through the eyes of our heroes.
So, it’s fair to assume that we’ll be going back in time once again – but the question is, to where, and when?
The Next Setting: Pondering The Possibilities
From our own perspective as die-hard Assassin’s Creed fans, we’d like to divulge our suggestion for the next game. If we could pick any timeline and any locale, it would be Germany in World War II. It would make for a fantastic setting for a new Assassin’s Creed game, fighting in the shadows of a war-torn city.
However, there are countless settings we could choose from, all of which serve as totally valid suggestions for the next title. For example, aside from brief excursions, we’ve never fully explored Ancient Rome. There’s a wealth of potential there, and we know the Assassin’s Creed timeline has touched upon it. Alternatively, we could check out the American Civil War – it would be a title akin to Assassin’s Creed III, which was set during the American Revolution, but it would certainly be well received.
Then, on a similar timeline, we could also explore the Old West. In the past, we’ve seen concept art related to ‘cowboy Assassins’, and honestly, it works really well. For years, fans have also been crying out for an Assassin’s Creed game to bet in feudal Japan, with samurai taking center stage. Although, given the emergence and success of Ghost of Tsushima (2020), it seems highly unlikely that the next game would be set in Japan.
There really are endless possibilities. Right now, with fans constantly asking, ‘is there a new Assassin’s Creed game coming out’, all we can really do is sit and wait.
