Corsair K55 RGB PRO Gaming Keyboard Review
The Corsair K55 RGB PRO is an affordable membrane keyboard with dedicated macro keys on the left-hand side and media control buttons on the right. In a nutshell, it is the ideal solution for streamers that use the Elgato Stream Deck, to which this keyboard connects via iCUE software. Besides its full-size design, this keyboard comes with customizable RGB lighting and a detachable wrist rest. Here we will review the Corsair K55 RGB PRO Gaming Keyboard.
Later in this review, we will briefly touch upon the second version of this keyboard: the Corsair K55 RGB PRO XT. The latter is a little bit fancier version that is on the more expensive side. The standard K55 RGB PRO is IP42 rated, which means it is water-resistant but not waterproof. In other words, this keyboard can withstand an energy drink spill but will not work underwater.
Is Corsair K55 RGB PRO good for gaming?
As a membrane keyboard, the Corsair K55 RGB PRO feels soft and springy to the touch and quieter than most mechanical keyboards. But it is not as responsive, so it is a valid option for gamers on a budget who do not aspire to rank first in their favorite game’s world rankings. The lack of optical or mechanical switches results in a low latency (polling rate: 1000Hz) and resistant keycaps that fatigue your hands pretty fast.
The wrist rest is a little too short for gamers with big hands. But overall, it is still a decent alternative to many other keyboards in the same price range. If you do not plan to use it for long hours every day, the Corsair K55 RGB PRO is, without any doubt, a good option for most games, including FPS, RTS, and platform games.
The only drawback is its plastic-built design. To explain, the shiny bar along the top with the Corsair logo is a real dust and hair magnet. Also, you may find the keyboard easy to move because it has no heft.
Other keyboard reviews:
Is Corsair K55 PRO mechanical?
Although you can find more K55 versions, they are all membrane keyboards. They all mount ABS keycaps, which means they are made of plastic. Underneath, you cannot clearly see the rubber dome because of a white plate of plastic. But the unmistakable resistance upon pressing a button reveals a stiffer, more exhausting keypress experience.
Does the CORSAIR K55 have USB ports?
The CORSAIR K55 comes with a single rubber USB cable that is not detachable. Besides the mentioned USB cable, no USB ports exist on the casing. On the underside of the keyboard, you can find only two rubber pads that help with grip when the keyboard is on a desktop surface.
Are Corsair membrane keyboards good?
Regarding the K55 PRO keycaps, some come with imperfect edging. The RGB does not shine through that well. But when it comes to making budget keyboards, Corsair does a decent job at providing reliable products. Thanks to the high switch housing that protects the switches from ingress of dirt and dust, their keyboards are durable and reliable.
The keyboard is easy to clean and maintain. Even if you are a messy gamer. The iCUE software lets you adjust settings for the lighting and change key assignments. Above all, the software layout is pretty neat and intuitive. So, the overall impression is a positive one. Only from a pro gamer’s perspective, Corsair’s affordable keyboards have too many flaws for them to be valuable during actual tournaments.
Corsair K55 PRO VS XT: Which One Is Better?
Both keyboards feature the same type of ABS keys that offer a spongy feel at the top yet still need to be bottomed out all the way to register the keystroke completely. Also, the media and macro keys are available in both versions and work exactly the same way. Including the macro recording button. But the XT model features better RGB lighting effects.
The K55 PRO model only features five lighting settings. Or, to be more precise, five zones and six possible patterns. Instead, the XT version offers a wider selection of effects that you can layer using the iCUE software. Besides that, there are no other differences. So, if you want to save more money, the K55 PRO is the more sensible choice.
We would suggest buying the XT model only if you stream a lot. After all, the better your setup, the more engaging the video. Without any doubt, if you need to record yourself using the keyboard, the more vivid effects will add a more appealing nuance to your cam shot.
