Countdown begins for The Sandbox’s new season update
Last week, PIXOWL, the developer behind the hit title Ethereum-based video game The Sandbox, announced that the game would receive over 90 experiences via an upcoming season update, called The Sandbox Alpha Season 3, which will drop on August 24.
The upcoming season update will feature new skins released from partnerships with various brands of multiple industries as well as rewards, new events, and more.
As D-Day approaches, fans eagerly wait for the new season update to drop. Via a release published last week, PIXOWL had teased that some well-known individuals and brands such as rapper Snoop Dogg, Steve Aoki, The Walking Dead, and The Smurfs will be featured among the experiences cited above.

Details on new season update in The Sandbox
The new experiences will be rolled into The Sandbox over the course of 10 weeks, starting from August 24. The developer claimed the upcoming update will be its “biggest season yet”, where players may discover this jam-packed event either by playing solo or multiplayer.
“We are excited to develop new use cases for the owners of these collections, starting with digital identity and the ability to create the worlds for these NFTs to be played with and evolve,” The Sandbox co-founder and COO Sébastien Borget in a release.
“Together with the most creative and engaged Web3 communities, we have a chance to define open metaverse culture and shape the future of our social interactions.”
In a release, PIXOWL wrote that 27 experiences would feature the game’s brand partners, such as Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and more. In addition to that, 17 experiences are presented directly by the game, and 20 others are supported by its Game Maker Fund. The remaining experiences are from user-generated content (12) and Game Jams (16).
The developer also emphasized the idea of interoperability in the upcoming season, adding that was the “new spin” they have planned in releasing Season 3. In other words, there will be quite a merry collection of playable NFTs in-game. PIXOWL claimed there are over 140,000 playable avatars in the game and 13 avatars came from “beloved NFT collections”, which will be playable on the launch date.
Introducing new system
Aside from events and avatars, the new season update will also bring a new reward system for holders. Rewards are reserved for those who hold a specific NFT for the duration of the event. The rewards are The Sandbox’s utility token SAND.
“With rewards if you hold a specific NFT for the duration of the season, rest assured that you will be rewarded with some SAND. When completing a level, LAND Owners, Avatar Holders and NFT collector users will unlock SAND rewards, even without an Alpha Pass!” PIXOWL wrote.
Rewards are allocated as follows — all Alpha Pass holders will receive up to 500 SAND, LAND owners will get up to180 SAND, Avatar owners are entitled to receive up to 60 SAND, and NFT collectors will get up to 30 SAND.
Additionally, the developer will be giving away 1.5 million SAND to top-ranked players on the leaderboard. Rank points are calculated based on the amount of Ethos Points (EPs) earned from completing a quest.
“Ranking is based on the total amount of Ethos Points (EPs) earned per user — users earn EPs for completing quests — and completion time! The harder a quest, the more Ethos Points you earn, the faster you are, the better your rank!” the developer explained.
The upcoming season is free and open to all to experience.
