Oddworld: Collection just came out on the Nintendo Switch on May 27th, and it’s time to revisit these nostalgic and zany titles. The collection includes three games: New ‘n’ Tasty, Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Oddysee. New ‘n’ Tasty is a ground-up remake of the first Oddworld game, “Abe’s Oddysee” released in 1997.

You play as Abe, one of the Mudokon creatures, who works as a slave in a meat processing plant under the rule of the Glukkon. Upon discovering that the Mudokon are being used as a meat source, he becomes the savior for his people and saves as many as he can while attempting to destroy the processing plant.

In Stranger’s Wrath, you play as Stranger the bounty hunter looking to get some Moolah for a surgery and solve the crisis of a town in need of a hero. Lastly, Munch’s Oddysee sees Abe return along with Munch. Munch is the last of his kind and must work with Abe to save the remaining eggs of Munch’s people as well as more Mudokons and Fuzzles.

What Does A Creature Do?

Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a 2D side-scrolling puzzle/platformer with 3D graphics. You control Abe and must navigate the factory controlled by the Glukkons. You’ll have to solve various puzzles by opening locked doors, saving Mudokon scrubs and avoiding enemy Paramites and Sligs. You’ll gain abilities as you progress through the game, such as mind control. You also can flatulate at will.

Stranger’s Wrath is a shooter that can switch between first and third-person depending on your preference. While in third person, you can speed run on all of your limbs and use two different types of melee attacks. Headbutting is an option as well, but one that takes too much time and does little damage. In first-person, you’re able to use a double-barreled crossbow with two different ammo types that are different types of animal critters. In Munch’s Oddysee, you roam a 3D environment solving puzzles similar to that in New ‘n’ Tasty.

Throughout the story, you’ll be in control of Abe (who possesses the same abilities he had in previous games) and Munch, who technically has different abilities though many are the same.

Odd Pricing

The hilarious commentary and stories involving all of the Oddworld inhabitants are half of the reason that makes these games so fun. The challenging puzzles are all completely worth figuring out and grant you satisfaction after completing. Further enticing you to do well in the games is how many creatures you save, which will determine the type of ending you receive.

In addition, the three titles wrapped into one collection make for a fun and entertaining bundle. The $60 price tag may not entirely be worth it, though. Unless you’re a fan of the franchise and want to relive some of the goofy stories and gameplay, or you’re a serious puzzle/platformer gamer who hasn’t touched the Oddworld games before, you won’t get enough out of these fairly old games that would warrant a brand new release price.
