What Are The Best Upcoming Games in 2022?
By all accounts, 2022 is expected to be a fantastic year for gaming in general with a number of upcoming games scheduled to be launched. There are advancements being made in play-to-earn and crypto games, there’s a packed esports schedule, and of course, there are more new games coming out. With each passing year, technology simply becomes better, and we’re treated to more expansive and adventurous games. In this article we’re going to look at the schedule of game launches, figuring out which are the best upcoming games 2022 has to offer.
In recent years, gaming has suffered several huge blows. For example, the disappointments of titles like Cyberpunk, Battlefield 2042, and Call of Duty: Warzone have left gamers feeling somewhat miserable. Will the top upcoming games in 2022 make any real difference?
Rainbow Six Extraction (January)
Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most popular esports titles out there today. We haven’t seen a new game in the Rainbow Six franchise for several years – until Ubisoft announced Extraction in 2021. This co-op multiplayer title boasts combat against a hostile environment, rather than the PVP combat we’re used to with Siege. In a somewhat unexpected twist to the series, Ubisoft is pitting players against otherworldly enemies known as Archaeans, and not against terrorists.
Horizon: Forbidden West (February)
Horizon: Forbidden West is already one of the most highly anticipated upcoming games 2022 will offer players. The first game in the franchise, Horizon: Zero Dawn, was released in 2017 to a massively popular reception. Now, the franchise will be expanded with Forbidden West, which serves as the first ‘AAA’ title for 2022. It’ll almost certainly be a contender for Game of the Year in 2022, we just need to hope that the delivery is as flawless as it was in the first game.

Dying Light 2 (February)
Another top-end title releasing in February of 2022 is Dying Light 2. This is a follow-up to 2015’s Dying Light, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest open-world zombie games of all time. In 2022, Dying Light 2 is set to break records once again for the genre, bursting onto the scene and offering unparalleled combat and movement mechanics. February certainly is a busy month for brand new games.
Elden Ring (February)
The hype surrounding the Dark Souls-style Elden Ring has essentially exploded. This open-world RPG epic has already had a lot of content revealed, and it all looks superb. While it’s geared towards the more challenge-friendly gamer, titles such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne have performed remarkably well in recent years. For the games upcoming in 2022, Elden Ring is certainly sitting near the top of the table in the popularity stakes.
Gran Turismo 7 (March)
While Gran Turismo isn’t expected to be an overwhelming success as Forza Horizon 5, it’s still a dramatically popular title. This hyper-realistic racing sim is exclusive to PlayStation, and it has been an iconic franchise for the platform for more than two decades. In March of 2022, the first main Gran Turismo release in seven years will drop, and fans are extremely excited.
Saints Row (August)
For many years, Saints Row has been a popular contender to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. This bizarre, zany open-world title boasts exciting combat, hilarious customisation, and a total lack of real rules. However, as one of the most exciting upcoming games, 2022’s Saint’s Row serves as a total reboot to the existing franchise. Reportedly, it’s a more serious reboot, but it still looks as though it’ll be a ton of fun.

Starfield (November)
Starfield has been in development for years, and in 2022, it’ll finally launch. It’s a brand new IP from Bethesda, a sheer titan of the gaming industry, and it’s being described as ‘Fallout in space’ (or Skyrim!). It’s a title set far in the future, and it’ll feature the biggest open world that Bethesda has ever created – by far. Alongside Horizon: Forbidden West, it’s a strong and powerful contender for Game of the Year.
